By drawing this picture, we wanted to portray the lives of Afghan women and girls who suffered from wars and other torment. While there are opportunities to further girls’ education in Afghanistan, and we do see progress towards girls’ empowerment, the mindset of forcing girls to stay home, stay away from school and accept forced marriages still remains. Keeping this fact in mind, we tried to draw a woman who is about to take the first step towards a liberated life. We wanted to show that by working hard, every girl of Afghanistan can overcome the hurdles in life, portrayed by the barbed wires and thorns, and move forward with their education and help their family members pursue education.
